In short:For AI and high-performance computing facilities, define the cooling valve duty, control interface and required failure response before comparing actuator products.

Valve actuation for liquid-cooled and hybrid facilities

Data-centre cooling enquiries often start with a cooling distribution unit, plant-room valve schedule or a rack and row cooling package. Those starting points need different actuator information. Identify the asset being moved, the valve supplier and the operating requirement before selecting a torque range or communication protocol.

Specify Motion helps cooling OEMs, integrators and facilities teams source suitable components and obtain pricing and supply options. We can review an original code, a proposed alternative or a new requirement. Send the valve and actuator details for sourcing, or configure the application.

RIFT products to discuss

RIFT identifies its RAT-DC platform for cooling-valve duties. View RAT-DC and request the current configuration documentation. The manufacturer’s broader catalogue also includes RAS, RAM and RAL products. These ranges should not be treated as interchangeable generations or assumed to share every platform feature.

The RAT-DC listing is a product enquiry starting point, not a claim that a selected unit has been qualified in your CDU. We do not infer response time, redundancy, certification, leak isolation performance or continuous-duty suitability from an industry description.

Separate the cooling duties

DutyInformation needed for the enquiry
IsolationValve reference, shut-off requirement and agreed power-loss response
BypassOperating sequence, valve travel and how the cooling system is controlled
Mixing or modulating controlRequired positioning, command signal and feedback
Airflow or ventilationDamper mechanism, operating torque and installation environment
Plant-room retrofitExisting valve, actuator, control wiring and mechanical interface

Control and condition information

State whether the actuator must integrate with a building management system, a package controller or another supervisory system. Identify the required protocol and the values the receiving controller actually needs. Confirm commanded and actual position, alarms and local operation against the selected product documentation.

Condition monitoring is distinct from a guaranteed prediction of failure. Ask how a baseline is established, what changes are reported and who interprets them. Any supervisory software, analytics or AI layer should have a defined function and release scope; it should not be assumed to ship with the actuator.

Power loss and commissioning

Specify the required state following power loss and how that state is verified. Agree commissioning, functional checks and responsibilities with the cooling-system designer. A failsafe option is a configuration to assess, not a blanket assurance of system resilience.

What to send for a quotation

Send the valve schedule or full reference, supply, operating mode, interface, quantities and required date. Include the intended environment, access constraints and documentation requirements. For a retrofit, tell us which mechanical and control interfaces must remain unchanged. Ask the quotation to identify accessories, delivery arrangements and after-sales support alongside the hardware.
