Who SteadyWin is
SteadyWin (伺泰威) is a Chinese maker of small servo systems and robot joint motors, based in Nanchang, Jiangxi. Its GIM joint motors are aimed at legged robots and light robot arms, and SteadyWin features the OpenArm robot arm, an MIT-style quadruped, educational robots and a powered gripper on its solutions pages.
The company describes its focus as small, efficient, fast-responding servo systems. It aims to let robots carry their power with them and run longer away from power cables. That shows in the product mix: light joint motors with optional integrated drivers, flat exoskeleton motors, and frameless motors for builders who design their own joints.
History and ownership
The legal entity is Jiangxi SteadyWin Automation Equipment Co., Ltd. (江西伺泰威自动化设备有限公司). Its company introduction says the core team members each have more than ten years’ experience in servo motor and drive production. The site shows patent and test certificates as images but does not publish a founding year, headcount, milestones or ownership, so we have not stated them.
Product portfolio
Joint motors
- The GIM Series is SteadyWin’s main range, with frames from GIM3505 to GIM8108 and several reductions per frame. GIM6010-8 drawings cover versions without a driver, with a driver, core-only, with an output shaft and with a brake. SteadyWin’s recent manuals and firmware add Modbus access, PWM and pulse/direction control, and an MIT control mode aligned with the open-source version. Torque and speed figures for GIM models are published only as curves and drawings, so check them in the downloads or with the maker.
- The TT Series is a second joint motor line, with figures published in text. The TT4510-10 gives 2.9 Nm rated and 11.95 Nm peak at 280 rpm rated. The TT4510-36 gives 9.9 Nm rated and 39.73 Nm peak. The TT8116-9 gives 13 Nm rated and 60.07 Nm peak, with 172.9 rpm peak speed.
Exoskeleton motors
The WGG Series consists of flat motors with planetary reduction for wearable robots. SteadyWin publishes full data for the WGG8108-8. It has an 8:1 steel planetary stage with 15 arcmin backlash, 10.2 Nm rated and 24.78 Nm stall torque at a 24 V test voltage, 288 rpm rated and 390 rpm maximum output speed, and 410 W rated power. The motor weighs 327 g without driver, measures 87 mm across and is rated IP54 for −20 to 65 °C. Nine WGG models are listed, from WGG4310-36 to WGG8108-8.
Other motors
SteadyWin also lists inner and outer-rotor brushless motors, brushless direct-drive and gimbal motors, hollow-shaft and torque servo series, frameless inner and outer-rotor motors, drone power systems, gimbal kits, driver boards and encoders. For frameless options, see the frameless torque motors hub and frameless motor sizing for robot joints.
Technologies
Where SteadyWin states the gear type, its geared motors use low-ratio planetary reduction in the quasi-direct-drive style (the WGG8108-8 has an 8:1 steel planetary stage). A large-diameter motor drives a short gear stage, so the joint stays back-drivable and responsive. The trade-off against harmonic actuators is more backlash and lower continuous torque per kilogram at the output. SteadyWin’s 15 arcmin on the WGG8108-8 is typical of the class. Our guide to harmonic vs planetary vs cycloidal gearing sets out the choice.
Check two points with SteadyWin before design freeze. First, confirm which hardware and firmware version you are buying, because the GIM manuals have gone through several revisions. Second, find out whether a published rating was measured with a particular controller: the WGG figures were taken at 25 °C with an 80 A ESC.
Reading SteadyWin’s ratings
SteadyWin’s peak figures are several times its rated figures. The TT4510-10 peaks at about 4.1 times its rated torque and the TT8116-9 at about 4.6 times, while the WGG8108-8’s stall torque is about 2.4 times rated. Size the joint on the rated value at your duty cycle, then check that short events (landing, lifting, collisions) stay under the peak. Treat the peak speed as a no-load or light-load figure: at rated torque the TT8116-9 is quoted at 100 rpm, against 172.9 rpm peak.
Industries served
SteadyWin names collaborative robots, educational robots, simulation robots and mechanical exoskeletons as its applications. Its solutions pages add quadrupeds and grippers. For production robotics, see robotics and cobots.
Global and UK presence
SteadyWin’s website lists only its Nanchang office. No overseas subsidiaries or UK distributors are named. UK engineers usually buy through international online resellers or directly. For production, ask for English documentation, CE/UKCA paperwork, version control and lead times.
What to send when specifying a joint motor
Send the continuous and peak torque at the joint, speed, duty cycle and supply voltage. Add the control interface (CAN, Modbus, PWM or pulse/direction), the encoder and absolute-position needs, backlash tolerance, mass and envelope limits, and the environment.
Specify Motion is independent of SteadyWin and is not a distributor for the company. Our engineers can help source SteadyWin products or propose equivalents from our supply network on published figures; see find a replacement or the servo and stepper motors hub.
