Who RobStride is
RobStride, trading as RobStride Dynamics, is a Chinese maker of integrated robot joint actuators. Each unit packs a brushless motor, driver electronics, a gear reducer and an absolute encoder into one round housing, so a robot builder needs only a DC supply and a CAN bus to get a controlled joint. The company describes its products as integrated motor modules for robots, lightweight industrial equipment and automation, and says it develops the motor drive, the motor itself and the reducer in-house, with experience of volume production.
The actuators sit in the same market as other quasi-direct-drive (QDD) joint modules used in legged robots and research humanoids: low gear ratios, high peak-to-rated torque, back-drivable joints and a simple bus interface.
History and ownership
The RobStride user manuals name the manufacturer as Beijing Lingzu Times Technology Co., Ltd. (北京灵足时代科技有限公司), shortened to “Lingzu”, with RobStride Dynamics as the English trading name. That places the company in Beijing. The pages we could read publish no founding date, headcount, shareholders or parent group, so we have not stated any.
The RobStride website is built as a script-driven application. Its product pages, about page and download page did not return readable text when we checked on 30 October 2026, so this profile relies on the two user manuals published as PDFs on robstride.com. We will extend it when more published information can be verified.
Product portfolio
Joint actuators
The website lists RobStride 01, 02, 03, 04, 05 and 06, a sealed RobStride 02 IP67 and an education model called EduLite 05. We have verified figures for two models from their manuals:
- The RobStride 02 is a 58 mm actuator with a 7.75:1 reduction. At its 48 V rating it gives 6 Nm rated and 17 Nm peak torque, 360 rpm at rated load and 410 rpm no-load, from a 380 g unit. Rated phase current is 7 A peak and the maximum is 23 A peak.
- The RobStride 03 gives 20 Nm rated and 60 Nm peak at 48 V, 180 rpm at rated load and 200 rpm no-load, and weighs 880 g. The manual’s text gives a 9:1 reduction, although one parameter table lists 64; confirm the ratio with the maker before relying on it.
Both run from 24 to 60 V DC, use a 14-bit single-turn absolute encoder and communicate over CAN 2.0 at 1 Mbps with extended frames. The manuals give an operating range of −20 to 50 °C and Class B insulation on the RS03. Neither manual states an IP rating or a backlash figure.
Reading the numbers
The peak-to-rated torque ratio is about 3:1 on both models. That is typical of QDD designs, which use a large motor and a low ratio so the joint stays back-drivable and can sense contact through motor current. Size such a joint on the continuous torque it must hold, such as a knee carrying body weight, and use the peak only for jumps, impacts and short accelerations. Our guide to harmonic vs planetary vs cycloidal gearing explains where low-ratio actuators fit against harmonic designs, and how to select a harmonic actuator covers the high-ratio alternative.
Technologies
RobStride actuators combine an integrated driver, a 14-bit absolute encoder and CAN 2.0 control in one housing, so the joint’s wiring is limited to DC power and the bus. As with other CAN-based joint modules, check the following before you commit to a design:
- The bus load at your control rate. At 1 Mbps a CAN bus carries a limited number of joints at kilohertz update rates.
- Whether you need output-side absolute position after power-up. A single-turn encoder before a reduction does not give it on its own.
- Thermal limits at your duty cycle. Peak torque is available only for short periods.
Industries served
RobStride’s own description targets robots, lightweight industrial equipment and automation. Joint modules of this type are used mostly in legged robots, humanoids, exoskeletons and research arms. For how joint actuators are specified for production machines, see robotics and cobots.
Global and UK presence
The pages we read list no overseas offices, subsidiaries or UK distributor. UK engineers usually buy RobStride actuators from international online resellers or directly from China. Allow for import lead times, and for CE/UKCA documentation and support checks when you move from prototype to production.
What to send when specifying a joint actuator
Send the continuous and peak torque at the joint, speed, duty cycle and supply voltage. Add the bus your controller uses (CAN or EtherCAT), the encoder resolution you need and whether you need absolute output position, plus mass and envelope limits, backlash tolerance and the operating environment.
Specify Motion is independent of RobStride and is not a distributor for the company. Our engineers can help source RobStride products or propose equivalents from our supply network on published figures; see find a replacement or the servo and stepper motors hub.
