Motion control components, specified as one system

Most machine axes need more than one component. A rotary axis on a robot joint might combine a frameless torque motor, a strain-wave gear, an absolute encoder, a servo drive and a slip ring to carry power and data through the joint. A linear axis on a packaging machine might pair an electric actuator with a servo motor, a planetary gearbox and a drive on EtherCAT. How to choose the right product family

• Slip rings: Rotary electrical contacts that pass power, signals and data from a fixed structure to a rotating one.
• Linear actuators: Electric rod and rodless actuators that turn rotary motor motion into controlled linear force and position.
• Servo and stepper motors: Housed servo and stepper motors for positioning, indexing and speed control.
• Frameless and torque motors: Rotor and stator kits built directly into the machine, removing couplings and gearing from the axis.
